Asylum Welcome could not exist without the incredible support of our local community, volunteers, members, supporters and donors.

All are invited to join us for our Annual Supporters Meeting and AGM which will be held next Tuesday 20th September 2022 at the Friends’ Meeting House, 43 St Giles, Oxford, OX1 3LW from 6pm.

This will be an opportunity to reflect on our current and emerging work and on the challenges and opportunities ahead.

In 2021/22, Asylum Welcome supported 60% more clients than the year before with a wider range of services and a bigger budget than at any time in our history.

As the national environment gets ever tougher for many of our clients and others like them, fleeing violence and persecution in so many countries, it is ever more important that we continue and extend our work.

We are a local charity and your help is essential if we are to do this. Thank you for what you have already done. Please continue to support us and, if you possibly can, do so now via our website at www.asylum-welcome.org/donate.

Recent developments include:

  • welcoming and supporting Afghan and Ukrainian refugees in hotels and the wider community
  • new services that we are offering in schools
  • a collaborative four agency immigration programme
  • exciting new partnerships
  • our upcoming merger with Sanctuary Hosting
  • innovative work with local councils

We will be joined by Professor Alexander Betts, Director of the Refugee Studies Centre at the University of Oxford, to reflect on the challenging and changing national political and policy environment and what this means for our clients. This will draw on an important research project that Prof Betts is currently undertaking with the Refugee Council, as well as his extensive international and national experience.

And finally, as part of the new Coalition to Keep Campsfield Closed, we will take stock of a vital mission ahead of us: to prevent the reopening of this notorious Immigration Removal Centre.

There will be refreshments from 6pm and the meeting will start at 6.30pm and finish before 8pm.

We look forward to seeing you there!
