This weekend marks a special moment for Oxford Phoenix FC, and we’re sharing their story in a new episode of Welcomecast.
Oxford Phoenix is a football team bringing together young refugees and asylum seekers from across the world. What began a few years ago with the first training sessions has grown into a strong and supportive community, where players find friendship, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

In our latest podcast episode, we hear from co-directors Youcef and Ivo, and from player Arvin, about that journey, and how football can offer space, connection, and hope during difficult times.
Now, this young team is on the verge of something remarkable.
This Saturday 2nd May, Oxford Phoenix will compete in the Ivor Gubbins Cup Final, an incredible achievement in their first league season. On their way to the final, they’ve beaten three teams from higher divisions, showing the determination and spirit that defines the club.
