The upcoming Lord Mayor of Oxford, Councillor James Fry, has chosen Asylum Welcome as one of his 3 charities of the year along with Emmaus and Aspire, with whom we work closely. Councillor Fry has served on the City Council since May 2012, and will become the 62nd Lord Mayor once confirmed and approved by the Council, most likely later this May. The Lord Mayor carries out hundreds of engagements including charity events each year.

We will be meeting with him and his team closer to his official appointment, but in the meantime, he has kindly shared with us a few lines about why he chose AW as one of his charities:

“The people of Oxford are very welcoming and the work of Asylum Welcome is essential in ensuring the best possible support for asylum seekers and refugees admitted to this country. I chose Asylum Welcome as one of my three Lord Mayor’s charities before the horrors of Russia’s war on Ukraine; the Ukrainian atrocities make this work more important than ever.”

We would like to express our gratitude to Councillor Fry for having chosen us as one of his supported charities, and look forward to working with him.
