A welcome that lasts a lifetime

For three decades, Asylum Welcome has helped people seeking safety rebuild their lives in Oxfordshire.

This Refugee Week, help us be there for the next person who needs us.

Niko’s story

Twenty-five years ago, a teenage boy we will call Niko* arrived in Oxford completely alone.

He was 17 years old. He did not speak English. He was separated from his family and had already escaped death multiple times before reaching the UK.

In Oxford, he found support through Asylum Welcome – help accessing accommodation, education, and the advice needed to begin rebuilding his life.

Today, Niko runs a successful business in Oxford, employs local people, and is raising his own family here.

His story is a reminder that welcome can have an impact that lasts a lifetime.

This Refugee Week, as we celebrate our 30th anniversary year, we are reflecting on the many lives rebuilt here in Oxfordshire, on the extraordinary courage it takes to begin again, and on the countless acts of welcome, from supporters like you, that have made those new beginnings possible.

Volunteers often tell us that one of the most valuable parts of their role is being “a caring listener”.

For people who have experienced hostility and fear, kindness can be transformative.

Give opportunity. Give hope. Give welcome.

Every day, Asylum Welcome helps refugees and asylum seekers access advice, accommodation, education, healthcare and practical support.

This Refugee Week, your support will help more people find safety, friendship, and the opportunity to build a new life.

Your support helps people rebuild their lives, reconnect with the world, and move forward with dignity and hope.

Please give what you can. Thank you.
