You can support Jonny Fox in the Oxford Town & Gown 10k for Asylum Welcome and Oxford Phoenix FC.

On Sunday, 11th May, our brilliant volunteer Jonny Fox will be running the Oxford Town & Gown 10k in support of Asylum Welcome and Oxford Phoenix FC.

Having volunteered with Asylum Welcome last year, Jonny has seen firsthand the vital work the charity does for asylum seekers and refugees. Asylum Welcome’s youth football group, Oxford Phoenix FC, has become a beacon of hope and integration for many young people who are new to the UK.

Oxford Phoenix FC is an incredible programme that uses football to offer young refugees and asylum seekers a sense of belonging, physical and mental well-being, and an opportunity to relieve stress. It also helps them forge connections with their local community, all through the unifying power of sport. For many of these young people, it provides a much-needed escape and respite from the challenges of adjusting to life in a new country.

Jonny has had the privilege of getting to know many of these young people, and he understands just how important the weekly football sessions are for them. It’s a space where they can come together, support each other, and feel part of something positive.

“I have come to know many of the young people who rely on Asylum Welcome, its staff, and its many services. I know how much they look forward to playing football each week, providing a break from adjusting to life in the UK.”
