Sanctuary Hosting

Information for Hosts

Hosting is a big commitment. Our hosts tell us it is also incredibly rewarding, that it can lead to amazing friendships, and that it is an antidote to political despair. All placements are fully supported by our dedicated local staff and volunteers.

New hosts are provided with training to ensure there is complete clarity about the role and are provided with a host “buddy” for ongoing support. We are very clear that hosting is a temporary solution and not an endless commitment for our hosts. We work with our guests to ensure there are “move on” options and hosts determine how long they are happy to host for. We welcome hosts who are able to offer emergency and respite accommodation, as well as those prepared to host for  longer.

Based on the date when most people can attend, we will hold the event with Refugee Resource on Wednesday 7 June 2023 from 6-8 pm.
The topics to be covered include supporting guests who are survivors of domestic abuse, mental health, and cultural diversity. We will confirm the location shortly.
Please confirm your attendance by emailing info@sanctuaryhosting.org and let us know if there are any dietary requirements. We would be grateful if hosts and volunteers in Reading could let us know if they are planning to attend so that we can assist with coordinating transport to and from the event.
