Day 22

Open Door: a Thursday success story…

“I do this because all the people are so delightful, and because I’m making a space where people can be comfortable and relaxed.”

– Jo Moffett-Levy, Open Door

Our partners and friends at Open Door provide a weekly Thursday drop-in for migrants and refugees at the St Clement’s Family Centre* on Cross Street (OX4 1BZ).

Jo, Melanie, Basma and team provide a free hot Halal lunch, and a welcoming and informal space for people to meet, eat and play pool, as well as giving some help with forms, phone calls, and referrals to other services.

Their door has been open for more than 20 years.

Since October 2022, Open Door has become a joint project with Damascus Rose Kitchen and Asylum Welcome.

We look forward to growing and developing this service together in the New Year.

*In February this year, Open Door moved from its previous venue at East Oxford Community Centre.

To be continued…

🙋 🙋‍♂️Open Door is currently looking for volunteers to join the team in the kitchen (to help cook and clear up) and also in the hall (to set up, look after guests and clear away).

If you can help for a couple of hours on a Thursday between 11.30am and 3.0pm please contact Jo (jo.moffett-levy@virginmedia.com).

Many thanks!

If you can, please support our appeal today. Thank you for being part of the story.
