Asylum Welcome is pleased to be establishing a partnership with the Sanctuary Wheels initiative to help grow and develop our Bike Project across the city and across Oxfordshire.
Sanctuary Wheels is a project providing bikes to unaccompanied refugee youth in Oxford, initiated by Oxford City Council Migrant Champion Dr Hosnieh Djafari-Marbini. It is coordinated between the Oxford City Council, Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue, Active Oxfordshire, Cyclox, TRAX, and Asylum Welcome. The first donation event at the end of February received over 50 bikes, which through these organizations will be refurbished, safety checked, and provided to children with appropriate equipment and training.
There are already 15 bikes ready to be given to our young clients of Venda, including helmets, lights, locks and a cycle training workshop to teach them how to ride safely in Oxford. Asylum Welcome is excited to support this initiative that will help young refugees take part in an active lifestyle together and become part of the Oxford community.
