Local Refugee Week Events 2026

OXFORD SANCTUARY FAIR

Saturday 13 June, 12.30 pm to 5.30 pm
Sunday 14 June, 10 am to 3.30 pm

Florence Park Community Centre, Cornwallis Road, Oxford OX4 3NH

A vibrant two-day community fair with music, stalls, workshops, games, picnics and family-friendly activities. Everyone welcome.

Food is free. Bus fare reimbursed to refugees and asylum seekers on request.

Oxford Phoenix take on Leys Lions in Asylum Welcome’s annual Refugee Week football match. Come along to support the teams and celebrate solidarity through sport.

A thought-provoking city tour exploring Oxford’s hidden histories and their links to today’s asylum system.

A joyful morning of activities, entertainment and refreshments hosted by Refugee Resource’s Women’s Group in aid of Refugee Week.

OXFORD PHOENIX: FROM THE ASHES WE RISE

Wednesday 17 June, 6.15 pm to 11 pm

Reuben College, Parks Road, Oxford OX1 3QP

Join Oxford Phoenix players and directors for an evening of talks and discussion about how sport can help people rebuild their lives and strengthen communities. Afterwards, watch the World Cup match between England and Croatia together in the Reuben Bar.

Friday 19 June, 2 pm to 5 pm

Meet at Carfax Tower, Oxford OX1 4AJ from 1.30 pm

People have come to Oxford from around the world ever since the first international student arrived in 1190. Today, it is a City of Sanctuary with one of the most international populations in the UK.

Led by award-winning Green Badge guide Jess Worth, this tour introduces Oxford and its university for people who have recently arrived here, and tells the story of the city’s history as a place of welcome and solidarity.

The tour will conclude with a picnic in the University Parks with free refreshments and an opportunity to meet new people.

Open to refugees, asylum seekers and volunteers.

STALL – CLOSE CAMPSFIELD AND EVERY IRC

The Coalition to Close Campsfield is holding a stall as part of the Action Against Detention and Deportations national Break the Border Weekend of Action calling for the closure of Campsfield and all immigration detention centres.

There will be campaign materials and opportunities to learn more about the movement to end immigration detention, the local campaign to stop Campsfield expanding, and how to get involved.

Everyone welcome.

CONFLUENCE COLLECTIVE MONTHLY CAFÉ AND OPEN MIC

Saturday 20 June, 2 pm to 5 pm

St Luke’s Church, Canning Crescent, Oxford OX1 4XB

A welcoming monthly gathering where people from all communities come together to share music, dance, poetry and food from cultures across Oxford. Refugees are especially welcome.
