Day 15

Amina’s story…

Here, our brilliant volunteer Amina reflects on her experiences at Asylum Welcome, supporting our Welcome Centre and also visiting detainees at Campsfield House IRC.

We share Amina’s heartfelt hope that Campsfield should remain closed.

On 28 June 2022, the Home Office announced plans for a new immigration removal centre to be developed on the site of Campsfield House, a former detention centre six miles north of Oxford. A mixture of refurbished and new-build accommodation, the centre would hold around 400 men and open in late 2023 at the earliest.

As we know from the previous 25 years of Campsfield’s existence, more detention means more years of danger, misery and harm for detainees. Asylum Welcome is proud to be a founder member of the Coalition to Keep Campsfield Closed.

This campaign needs all of our support.

If you are able to help then please email keepcampsfieldclosed@gmail.com to get involved. Thank you.

To be continued…

In 2021/22, Asylum Welcome supported 60% more clients than the year before with a wider range of services and a bigger budget than at any time in our history. We couldn’t do it without you. 🧡

As the national environment gets ever tougher for many of our clients and others like them, fleeing violence and persecution in so many countries, it is ever more important that we continue and extend our work.

If you can, please support our appeal today. Thank you for being part of the story.
