Every June, communities across the UK come together to celebrate Refugee Week – the world’s largest arts and culture festival recognising the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary.
Founded in the UK in 1998, Refugee Week has grown into a global movement involving more than two million people in over 20 countries. Through arts, culture, sport, food, conversation and community events, Refugee Week creates opportunities to connect beyond labels, build understanding, and celebrate the many ways refugees enrich our shared communities.
The theme for Refugee Week 2026 is Courage.
Asylum Welcome is proud to help coordinate Oxford Refugee Week, bringing together local organisations, artists, performers, volunteers and community groups for a week of inspiring events across the city. From music and exhibitions to sport, discussion and family activities, there are many ways to get involved, learn something new and celebrate Oxford’s welcome for people seeking sanctuary.
You can explore the local programme of events here.
An A4 version of our Refugee Week poster is available to download and print (Refugee Week & Sanctuary Fair (PDF to Download)), and physical copies can also be collected from our office on Magdalen Road.
