Ghazala’s story

Asylum Welcome supports refugees and asylum seekers to access education and employment opportunities, develop their English language skills, and have every opportunity to integrate, contribute and thrive. Support is individually tailored to each individual and helps our clients to gain confidence, develop their skills and fulfil their potential. Ghazala’s story exemplifies the huge impact of this work.
Ghazala came to Asylum Welcome in 2017, speaking no English at all. We supported her to improve her language skills. In parallel, she regularly attended our employment service. With support from Asylum Welcome, Ghazala became confident enough to take up a volunteering position at a local school. We helped her to find out about teaching assistant roles and we arranged for her to go and talk to a school, and helped her to prepare for this.
“Whatever I am today it’s because of Asylum Welcome. I really appreciate their help for the people like me who have no family here. Their support is amazing. I love Asylum Welcome. They helped me to find voluntary work at a primary school and found assistant teacher courses. They developed my language skills, prepared my CV, updating it each time, and encouraged me to keep going. They developed my confidence and awareness about society. Now I can travel all alone; I am not scared anymore.” Ghazala
